European Funerary Monuments of Kerala

A pictorial blog for the European funerary heritage of Kerala. This include English, Portuguese, Dutch, French, German, Italian grave markers. The earliest are the 16th century Portuguese tombstones in the St Francis Church of Fort Kochi. The primary objective of the blog is to identify and upload as many of the extant pre-independence European funerary monuments in Kerala. Memorial tablets inside the churches may also be considered. Biographical details are beyond the scope of this blog.

22) MEMORIAL TABLETS INSIDE ST MARY'S CSI (ENGLISH CHURCH), NADAKKAVU, KOZHIKODE

Interior of St Mary's CSI Church, Nadakkavu, Kozhikkode

Inside the church are 3 memorial plaques for members from the European community, viz. Dr. Hector Grahame Henderson [d. 1877], Edward S S Thompson [d. 1887] and John Christie [d. 1916]. An identical copy of the memorial tablet of John Christie erected by the Directors, Managers and Assistants of Peirce Leslie & Co Ltd. is also found inside the St Francis CSI Church of Fort Cochin (see here).
